The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said: Lo! this is some knowing wizard, 109 He intends to turn you out of your land. What counsel do you then give? 110 They said: "Put him and his brother off (awhile) and send out heralds to the cities 111 And bring up to thee all (our) sorcerers well-versed." 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh and asked, "Shall we have a reward, if we should prevail?" 113 He said: "Yea, (and more),- for ye shall in that case be (raised to posts) nearest (to my person)." 114 They said, “O Moosa! You may throw first – or shall we be the first to throw?” 115 He said, "You throw [first]!" When they made their cast, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck them with awe, for they showed a great [feat of] magic. 116 And We inspired Moosa that, “Put forth your staff”; it immediately began swallowing up their fabrications. 117 ۞ Thus the truth prevailed and what they had produced came to nothing: 118 And Pharaoh and his people were overcome right there and became debased. 119 And the magicians fell down in prostration [to Allah]. 120 And said: "We have come to believe in the Lord of all the worlds, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron.' 122 Said Pharaoh, "You believed in him before I gave you permission. Indeed, this is a conspiracy which you conspired in the city to expel therefrom its people. But you are going to know. 123 “I swear I will cut off your hands and your feet from alternate sides and then crucify you all.” 124 They answered: "We have (in any case) to go back to our Lord. 125 "But thou dost wreak thy vengeance on us simply because we believed in the Signs of our Lord when they reached us! Our Lord! pour out on us patience and constancy, and take our souls unto thee as Muslims (who bow to thy will)! 126
