Do not think God is unaware of the wrongdoers' actions. He only gives them respite till the Day on which all eyes will stare fixedly in horror. 42 They running forward with necks outstretched, their heads uplifted, their gaze returning not towards them, and their hearts a (gaping) void! 43 And, [O Muhammad], warn the people of a Day when the punishment will come to them and those who did wrong will say, "Our Lord, delay us for a short term; we will answer Your call and follow the messengers." [But it will be said], "Had you not sworn, before, that for you there would be no cessation? 44 Yet you dwelt in the dwellings of those who had exceeded themselves, and it was evident to you how We had dealt with them; and We held out examples before you." 45 They hatched their plots; but these plots were all within God's knowledge. Though their plots were such as to shake the mountains, God will bring their plots to nothing. 46 Think not that God would go back on His promise (made) to the apostles. Indeed God is mighty, the Lord of retribution. 47 On the Day whereon the earth will be changed into other than the earth, and the heavens also; and all creatures will appear unto Allah, the One, the Subduer. 48 Thou wilt see the guilty on that day linked together in chains, 49 Their garments will be of pitch, and fire will cover their faces. 50 that God may recompense every soul for its earnings; surely God is swift at the reckoning. 51 This is a preaching for mankind, and that they may be warned thereby, and that they may know that there is only one God, and that the men of understanding may be admonished. 52
