Said the Council of the unbelievers of his people, who cried lies to the encounter of the world to come, and to whom We had given ease in the present' life, 'This is naught but a mortal like yourselves, who eats of what you eat and drinks of what you drink. 33 And if you obey a mortal like yourselves, then most surely you will be losers: 34 What! does he threaten you that when you are dead and become dust and bones that you shall then be brought forth? 35 ۞ How far, how far, is that which you are promised. 36 "There is nothing but our life of this world! We die and we live! And we are not going to be resurrected! 37 “He is just a man who has fabricated a lie against Allah, and we are not going to believe him.” 38 (The prophet) said: "O my Lord! help me: for that they accuse me of falsehood." 39 [Allah] said, "After a little, they will surely become regretful." 40 So the shriek seized them in truth, and We made them as [plant] stubble. Then away with the wrongdoing people. 41 Then after them We brought forth other generations. 42 No nation can outstrip its term, nor can it put it back. 43 And We sent forth Our apostles, one after another: [and] every time their apostle came to a community, they gave him the lie: and so We caused them to follow one another [into the grave,] and let them become [mere] tales: and so - away with the folk who would not believe! 44 Then We sent Musa and his brother Haroun, with Our communications and a clear authority, 45 To Pharaoh and his nobles who behaved with arrogance, for they were a conceited lot, 46 They said, "Should we believe two men like ourselves while their people are for us in servitude?" 47 So they denied them, and became of those who were destroyed. 48 And We gave the Book to Moses so that they may be guided. 49 And We made the son of Marium and his mother a sign, and We gave them a shelter on a lofty ground having meadows and springs. 50
