۞ Before this We gave Abraham his virtue, for We knew him. 51 Abraham asked his father and his people, "What are these statues which you worship?" 52 They said: we found our fathers the worshippers thereof. 53 He said, 'Then assuredly you and your fathers have been in manifest error.' 54 They said: 'Is it the truth you have brought us, or are you one of those that play' 55 He said: "In fact it was your Lord, the Lord of the heavens and the earth, who created them; and I bear witness to this. 56 And [he added to himself.] "By God, I shall most certainly bring about the downfall of your idols as soon as you have turned your backs and gone away!" 57 He shattered them all, except the biggest among them, that perhaps they may question it. 58 (When the people came to the temple and saw the broken idols) they asked each other, "Who has done this to our gods? He certainly is an unjust person". 59 Some among them said, “We heard a youth speak ill of them – the one called Ibrahim.” 60 The others said: "Bring him, then, before the eyes of the people that they may see (what will be done to him)." 61 [And when he came.] they asked: "Hast thou done this to our gods, O Abraham?" 62 He said: "Nay, this was done by - this is their biggest one! ask them, if they can speak intelligently!" 63 Then gathered they apart and said: Lo! ye yourselves are the wrong-doers. 64 Then they turned to themselves (their first thought and said): "Indeed you [Ibrahim (Abraham)] know well that these (idols) speak not!" 65 He said, "Do you, instead of God, worship things that can neither harm nor benefit you?" 66 "Fie upon you, and upon the things that ye worship besides Allah! Have ye no sense?".. 67 They said, "Burn him and help your deities, if you are resolved to do something." 68 We said, 'O fire, be coolness and safety for Abraham!' 69 They had sought to do him harm, but We frustrated them. 70 And We delivered him and Lut to the land wherein We had placed Our blessings for the worlds. 71 And We gave him Ishaq and Yaqoub, a son's son, and We made (them) all good. 72 And We made them into leaders to guide people in accordance with Our command, and We inspired them to good works, and to establish Prayers and to give Zakah. They worshipped Us alone. 73 And (remember) Lout (Lot), We gave him Hukman (right judgement of the affairs and Prophethood) and (religious) knowledge, and We saved him from the town (folk) who practised Al-Khaba'ith (evil, wicked and filthy deeds, etc.). Verily, they were a people given to evil, and were Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient, to Allah). 74 And We brought him in unto Our mercy. Lo! he was of the righteous. 75
