[Pharaoh] said to the eminent ones around him, "Indeed, this is a learned magician. 34 who desires to expel you from your land by his sorcery; what do you command?' 35 They said, “Stop him and his brother, and send gatherers to the cities.” 36 who shall bring to you every skilful sorcerer." 37 So the magicians were gathered together at the appointed time on the fixed day, 38 And it was said to the people: "Are you (too) going to assemble? 39 so that we might follow [in the footsteps of] the sorcerers if it is they who prevail?" 40 When the magicians came, they asked Pharaoh, "Shall we have a reward, if we are the winners?" 41 He replied, "You will then be my closest associates". 42 Moses said unto them: Throw what ye are going to throw! 43 Then they threw down their cords and their staves and said: By Pharaoh's might, lo! we verily are the winners. 44 Then Moses threw down his staff, and lo, it swallowed up their conjurations. 45 so the sorcerers were cast down, bowing themselves. 46 saying, "We believe in the Lord of the Universe 47 The Lord of Musa and Haroun. 48 Said Firaun, “You accepted faith in him before I permitted you! He is indeed your leader who taught you magic; so now you will come to know; I swear, I will certainly cut off your hands and your feet from alternate sides, and crucify all of you.” 49 They said: "There will be no harm. We shall return to our Lord. 50 “We hope that our Lord will forgive us our mistakes, as we are the first to believe.” 51
