Recite unto them the story of Abraham: 69 When he said to his father and his people: What do you worship? 70 They said: We worship idols, and are ever devoted unto them. 71 He asked: "Do they hear you when you call them 72 or do they cause you any benefit or harm?" 73 They said, "In fact we found our forefathers doing likewise." 74 He said, 'And have you considered what you have been serving, 75 Ye and your forefathers! 76 Yet they are my enemies except the Lord of all the worlds 77 Who hath created me, and He guideth me. 78 "Who gives me food and drink, 79 And heals me when I am sick, 80 Who will make me die, then give me life again, 81 And Who, I hope, will forgive me my mistakes on the day of judgment. 82 (And then Abraham prayed): "My Lord, endow me with knowledge and wisdom and join me with the righteous, 83 And grant me a reputation of honor among later generations. 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Paradise of Delight; 85 and forgive my father; for he is one of the misguided; 86 And disgrace me not on the Day when (all the creatures) will be resurrected; 87 The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children 88 but only he that brings to Allah a sound heart will (attain to success)." 89 (On that Day) the Garden will be brought near to the God-fearing, 90 And Hell made visible to those who had gone astray. 91 and they will be asked: "Where now is all that you were wont to worship 92 besides God? Can they help you or even help themselves?" 93 So they will be overturned into Hellfire, they and the deviators 94 And all the armies of Iblis. 95 And there and then, blaming one another, they [who had grievously sinned in life] will exclaim: 96 "By Allah, we were indeed in manifest error 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Universe. 98 "'And our seducers were only those who were steeped in guilt. 99 so now we have no intercessors, 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 Oh, that we had another turn (on earth), that we might be of the believers! 102 Verily there is a sign in this, but many of them do not believe. 103 Verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 104
