The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What are they asking (one another)? 1 Is it about the awesome tiding 2 concerning which they have disputes. 3 Indeed they will come to know soon; 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse. 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs, 8 made sleep for you to rest, 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 and made the day for earning a livelihood. 11 And We have builded over you seven strong heavens. 12 and have placed [therein the sun,] a lamp full of blazing splendour. 13 And We sent down rain from water-laden clouds pouring in torrents 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetations, 15 And dense gardens. 16 Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes, 18 And the heaven will be opened – it therefore becomes like gates. 19 And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance. 20 Truly Hell is as a place of ambush, 21 The destination of the rebellious. 22 In which they will remain for ages [unending]. 23 They will not taste therein cool or any drink. 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 a fitting requital, 26 For indeed they did not look forward to any reckoning, 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 And We have recorded everything in a book, 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30
