(The tribe of) A’ad denied the Noble Messengers. 123 Recall, when their brother Hud said to them: "Have you no fear? 124 I am a trustworthy messenger for you: 125 So fear God and listen to me. 126 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 127 Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight? 128 and make for yourselves mighty castles, [hoping] that you might become immortal? 129 "And when ye exert your strong hand, do ye do it like men of absolute power? 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 Have fear of the One who has bestowed upon you all that you know. 132 Provided you with grazing livestock and children 133 "And gardens and springs. 134 “Indeed I fear upon you the punishment of a Great Day.” 135 They replied, "It makes no difference to us whether you preach or do not preach, 136 This has been happening all along. 137 And we shall not be doomed. 138 Then they accused him of lies; so We annihilated them. Verily there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 Surely your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 140
