Indeed this is a revelation from the Lord of the Universe; 192 trustworthy divine inspiration has alighted with it from on high 193 upon your heart (Prophet Muhammad), in order to be one of the warners, 194 In plain Arabic speech. 195 (a revelation embodied) in the scriptures of the ancients. 196 And has it not been a sign to them that it is recognized by the scholars of the Children of Israel? 197 And if we had revealed it to any of the foreigners 198 And had he recited it to them, they would not have believed in it. 199 Thus have We caused this (Admonition) to penetrate the hearts of the culprits (like a hot rod). 200 they will not believe in it till they behold the grievous suffering 201 It shall come to them of a sudden, while they perceive it not; 202 They will therefore say, “Will we get some respite?” 203 Do they, then, [really] wish that Our chastisement be hastened on? 204 Did you consider that if We were to let them enjoy life for many years 205 And then there cometh unto them that which they had been promised. 206 of what avail would their past enjoyment be to them? 207 Never a city We destroyed, but it had warners 208 for a reminder; and never did We wrong. 209 It was not the devils who brought down the Quran: 210 nor does it behove them, nor does it lie in their power. 211 The satans are barred from listening to anything from the heavens. 212 So do not call upon another god with Allah, lest you should be one of those who are punished. 213 And warn, [O Muhammad], your closest kindred. 214 Lower thy wing to those who follow thee, being believers; 215 If they disobey you, say: 'I am quit of what you do' 216 And rely upon (Allah) the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 217 who can see whether you stand up 218 and [sees] thy behaviour among those who prostrate themselves [before Him]: 219 for, verily, He alone is all-hearing, all-knowing! 220 O people, shall I tell you on whom it is that satans descend? 221 They descend on every lying (one who tells lies), sinful person. 222 They give ear, but most of them are liars. 223 Only the erring people follow the poets. 224 Do you not see that they wander about bewildered in every valley? 225 And that they say what they practise not?- 226 except those who believed and acted righteously and remembered Allah much, and when they themselves were subjected to wrong, they exacted retribution no more than to the extent of the wrong? Soon will the wrong-doers know the end that they shall reach. 227
