The Spider (Al-Ankaboot)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif-Lam-Mim. 1 Do people think that once they say, "We believe," they will be left alone and not be put to the test? 2 We had tried those who were before them so that God knew who spoke the truth, and who were liars. 3 Or do they who commit evil deeds imagine that they can escape from Us? What an evil judgement they impose! 4 He who hopes to meet God (should know) that God's appointed time will surely come. He is all-hearing and all-knowing. 5 And whoever strives, strives only for himself, God is independent of all His creation, 6 And those who believe and do righteous deeds - We will surely remove from them their misdeeds and will surely reward them according to the best of what they used to do. 7 We have enjoined on man kindness to parents: but if they (either of them) strive (to force) thee to join with Me (in worship) anything of which thou hast no knowledge, obey them not. Ye have (all) to return to me, and I will tell you (the truth) of all that ye did. 8 And those who believe and work righteous deeds,- them shall We admit to the company of the Righteous. 9 There are among men those who say: "We believe in God;" yet if they happen to suffer in the cause of God they take oppression by men as punishment from God. And if help comes to them from your Lord, they say: "We were with you." Does not God know what is hidden in the hearts of men? 10 [Yea - ] and most certainly will God mark out those who have [truly] attained to faith, and most certainly will He mark out the hypocrites. 11 Those who deny say to those who affirm: "Follow our way; we shall carry the burden of your sins." But they cannot carry the burden of their sins in the least. They are liars indeed. 12 And most certainly they shall carry their own burdens, and other burdens with their own burdens, and most certainly they shall be questioned on the resurrection day as to what they forged. 13
