۞ Gather together the evildoers, their wives, and that they were worshipping, 22 Other than Allah, and guide them to the path of Hellfire 23 and stop them there for questioning: 24 "Why help you not one another?" 25 No indeed; but today they resign themselves in submission 26 but [since it will be too late,] they will turn upon one another, demanding of each other [to relieve them of the burden of their past sins]. 27 (The followers will say to their leaders): “You used to come to us from the right hand.” 28 They answer: Nay, but ye (yourselves) were not believers. 29 We had no power over you. You were a rebellious people, 30 But now our Lord's word has come true against us: truly, we are bound to taste [the punishment]. 31 We seduced you astray; verily we were ourselves the seduced ones. 32 So all of them on that day are sharers in the chastisement. 33 This is how We deal with the criminals. 34 for, behold, whenever they were told, "There is no deity save God," they would glory in their arrogance 35 saying, 'What, shall we forsake our gods for a poet possessed?' 36 Nay! he has come with the (very) Truth, and he confirms (the Message of) the messengers (before him). 37 Verily, you (pagans of Makkah) are going to taste the painful torment; 38 and be rewarded only according to your deeds." 39 But Allah's chosen servants (shall be spared this woeful end). 40 For them awaits a known provision, 41 and fruits while they are honored. 42 in gardens of bliss, 43 seated on couches, facing one another. 44 Round shall be passed a cup unto them filled with limpid drink: 45 White, a pleasure unto the drinkers. 46 There shall be no trouble in it, nor shall they be exhausted therewith. 47 They will have with them loving wives with big black and white eyes 48 as if they were hidden pearls. 49 They will turn to each other and ask questions. 50 One of them will say: 'I had a companion 51 who would say: "Are you among the believers (of the resurrection)? 52 What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be requited?" 53 He said (to others on the thrones), “Will you take a glimpse (into hell) below?” 54 Then looketh he and seeth him in the depth of hell. 55 He saith: By Allah, thou verily didst all but cause my ruin, 56 "Had it not been for the Grace of my Lord, I would certainly have been among those brought forth (to Hell)." 57 Then he will say [to his blessed companions], "Are we not going to die, 58 Save our first death, and are we not to be tormented? 59 Most surely this is the mighty achievement. 60 for which one must strive hard. 61 Is this better or the tree of Zaqqum 62 We have made this (tree) a trial for the evildoers. 63 It is a tree that grows at the bottom of Hell. 64 Its spathes are like the prickly pear. 65 And verily they must eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. 66 And afterward, lo! thereupon they have a drink of boiling water 67 Then to Hell they will surely be returned. 68 They found their fathers in error, 69 But they make haste (to follow) in their footsteps. 70 Thus, indeed, most of the people of old went astray before them, 71 And indeed We had sent Heralds of warnings among them. 72 and behold, how was the end of them that were warned, 73 Save single-minded slaves of Allah. 74
