۞ (And it is said unto the angels): Assemble those who did wrong, together with their wives and what they used to worship 22 Other than God," (the angels will be told), "then show them the way to Hell, 23 And stop them, for they shall be questioned: 24 'Why do you not help one another? 25 Indeed, today they are surrendering themselves completely.” 26 and advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 27 They will say: "It was ye who used to come to us from the right hand (of power and authority)!" 28 [To which] the others will reply: "Nay, you yourselves were bereft of all faith! 29 Moreover, we had no power at all over you: nay, you were people filled with overweening arrogance! 30 But now our Lord's word has come true against us: truly, we are bound to taste [the punishment]. 31 "We led you astray: for truly we were ourselves astray." 32 Truly, that Day, they will (all) share in the Penalty. 33 Verily that is how We shall deal with Sinners. 34 Indeed, when it was said to them, “There is no God except Allah”, they were haughty. 35 and said: 'Are we to renounce our gods for the sake of a mad poet' 36 'No indeed; but he brought the truth, and confirmed the Envoys. 37 Verily, you (pagans of Makkah) are going to taste the painful torment; 38 but you shall not be recompensed except for what you were doing. 39 Save the servants of Allah, the purified ones. 40 For them is a Sustenance determined, 41 Fruits, and they shall be highly honored, 42 In the Gardens of delight, 43 Facing one another on thrones. 44 a cup from a spring being passed round to them, 45 white, a delight to the drinkers, 46 There shall be no trouble in it, nor shall they be exhausted therewith. 47 They will have with them loving wives with big black and white eyes 48 (Delicate and pure) as if they were (hidden) eggs (well) preserved. 49 So one among them turns to the other, questioning. – 50 One of them will say: 'I had a companion 51 Who said: art thou of those who confess to the doctrine of Resurrection: 52 [that] after we have died and become mere dust and bones we shall, forsooth, be brought to judgment?"' 53 He will say: -- Do you wish to know where he is now?' 54 Then, he will look and see him in the midst of Hell. 55 He saith: By Allah, thou verily didst all but cause my ruin, 56 “And were it not for the munificence of my Lord, I too would have been seized and brought forth (captive)!” 57 Are we not then to die 58 "Except our first death, and we shall not be punished? (after we have entered Paradise)." 59 Verily this is the supreme achievement! 60 For this the toilers should strive." 61 Is Paradise a better accommodation or the tree of zaqqum? 62 Truly We have made it (as) a trail for the Zalimun (polytheists, disbelievers, wrong-doers, etc.). 63 Verily, it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-fire, 64 Its fruit like the heads of demons. 65 And indeed, they will eat from it and fill with it their bellies. 66 Then on the top of that they will be given boiling water to drink so that it becomes a mixture (of boiling water and Zaqqum in their bellies). 67 And afterward, lo! their return is surely unto hell. 68 Indeed they found their fathers astray. 69 So they hastily follow their footsteps! 70 Before them a multitude of people of olden times had erred, 71 And indeed We had sent Heralds of warnings among them. 72 See how terrible was the end of those who were warned. 73 EXCEPT for God's true servants, [most people are apt to go astray.] 74
