We did send Moses aforetime, with Our Signs, to Pharaoh and his Chiefs: He said, "I am a messenger of the Lord of the Worlds." 46 But when he brought them Our tokens, behold! they laughed at them. 47 We showed them Sign after Sign, each greater than its fellow, and We seized them with Punishment, in order that they might turn (to Us). 48 'Sorcerer' they said, 'pray to your Lord for us in accordance to the covenant He has made with you, and surely we shall be rightly guided' 49 But when We eased them of the torment, behold! they broke their word. 50 The Pharaoh shouted to his people, "My people, is the kingdom of Egypt not mine? and can you not see that the streams flow from beneath my palace? 51 "Am I not better than this (Moses), who is a contemptible wretch and can scarcely express himself clearly? 52 Then why have there not been placed upon him bracelets of gold or come with him the angels in conjunction?" 53 Thus he [Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] befooled and misled his people, and they obeyed him. Verily, they were ever a people who were Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient to Allah). 54 So when they angered Us, We punished them, and drowned them all. 55 And We made them a precedent and example to the later generations. 56
