Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
HA MIM. 1 By the manifest Book (this Quran) that makes things clear, 2 We sent it down during a Blessed Night: for We (ever) wish to warn (against Evil). 3 During it are distributed all the works of wisdom. 4 As commands from Us. It is indeed We who send (messengers), 5 A Mercy from your Lord, He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them; if you people believe. 7 There is no god except He. He revives and causes to die. (He is) your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 Nay, but they are in doubt, playing. 9 So you await the day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. 10 enveloping all mankind, [and causing the sinners to exclaim:] "Grievous is this suffering! 11 'Our Lord, remove this punishment from us, we are believers' 12 How can there be remembrance for them, when a messenger making plain (the Truth) had already come unto them, 13 then they turned away from him and said, 'A man tutored, possessed!' 14 Lo! We withdraw the torment a little. Lo! ye return (to disbelief). 15 The day when We will seize with the greatest seizure We will indeed take revenge. 16 ۞ We did, before them, try the people of Pharaoh: there came to them a messenger most honourable, 17 Who said, “Give the bondmen of Allah into my custody; I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger for you.” 18 Do not set yourselves above God: I bring you clear authority. 19 I have taken refuge in my Lord and your Lord against your stoning me to death. 20 And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. 21 And he cried unto his Lord, (saying): These are guilty folk. 22 And [God said]: "Go thou forth with My servants by night, for you will surely be pursued; 23 And leave the sea intervening; surely they are a host that shall be drowned. 24 They left - how many! of gardens and springs. 25 and sown fields and splendid mansions, 26 And comfort wherein they were amused. 27 Thus it was; and We passed them on to another people. 28 The sky nor the earth cried for them, nor were they given respite. 29

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
