A large group from the earlier generations. 39 And a multitude from the later generations. 40 And those on the Left Hand Who will be those on the Left Hand? 41 They will be in the midst of scorching wind and boiling water, 42 And the shade of black smoke. 43 neither cold nor graceful in shape. 44 Surely they had lived before in luxury, 45 But persisted in that greater sin, 46 And they used to say, “When we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, will we surely be raised again?” 47 and perhaps, too, our forebears of old?" 48 Say thou: verily the ancients and those of later generations: 49 "All will certainly be gathered together for the meeting appointed for a Day well-known. 50 Then you, you misguided ones, who deny the truth, 51 Most surely eat of a tree of Zaqqoom, 52 And shall fill therewith your bellies. 53 Then drink over it of boiling water; 54 Lapping it up like female camels raging of thirst with disease." 55 This shall be their hospitality on the Day of Doom. 56 We have created you: why then do you not accept the truth? 57 Have you considered the seed you spill? 58 Is it you who create it (i.e. make this semen into a perfect human being), or are We the Creator? 59 It is We Who ordained death upon you and We are not to be frustrated. 60 That We may substitute others like unto you and produce you into that which ye know not. 61 You have known the first growth; so why will you not remember? 62 Ponder upon the soil you till, 63 Do you make it grow or is it We who make it grow? 64 If We so wished, We could have reduced your harvest to rubble, and you would have been left wonder-struck to exclaim: 65 That, “We have indeed been penalised!” 66 Nay, but we are deprived! 67 Have you considered the water which you drink? 68 Is it ye who shed it from the raincloud, or are We the Shedder? 69 If We willed, surely We would make it brackish. Wherefore give ye not thanks? 70 So what is your opinion regarding the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you who made the tree thereof to grow, or are We the Grower? 72 We have made it a reminder and an advantage for the wayfarers of the desert. 73 So glorify your Lord, the most supreme. 74
