Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. 1 By the Book that makes things clear; 2 that We sent down during a Blessed Night. We are ever warning. 3 therein every wise bidding 4 As a command from before Us. Verily We were to become senders: 5 A Mercy from your Lord, He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them - if you could but grasp it with inner certainty! 7 There is no god but He; He gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of yore. 8 Nay, but they play in doubt. 9 So wait thou the day whereon the heaven will bring forth a manifest smoke: 10 covering the people; this is a painful chastisement. 11 [They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers." 12 How can there be remembrance for them, when a messenger making plain (the Truth) had already come unto them, 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "[He was] taught [and is] a madman." 14 We shall indeed remove the Penalty for a while, (but) truly ye will revert (to your ways). 15 But on that Day We will assault them most mightily, and then We shall revenge! 16 ۞ We had certainly tested the people of the Pharaoh before them to whom a noble Messengers had come, saying, 17 saying, 'Deliver to me God's servants; I am for you a faithful Messenger, 18 "And be not arrogant as against Allah: for I come to you with authority manifest. 19 and, behold, it is with my Sustainer - and your Sustainer - that I seek refuge against all your endeavours to revile me. 20 And if ye will not believe in me, then let me alone. 21 Then he called upon his Lord: “These are a criminal people.” 22 (He was told): “Set out with My servants by night for you will certainly be pursued. 23 "And leave the sea as it is (quiet and divided). Verily, They are a host to be drowned." 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 sown fields, and how noble a station, 26 and [all that] life of ease in which they used to delight! 27 Thus (was their end)! And We made other people inherit (those things)! 28 The sky nor the earth cried for them, nor were they given respite. 29
