The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the mount 1 And by oath of a passage, written – 2 on wide-open scrolls. 3 by the established House (Mecca), 4 and by the lofty vault of the sky, 5 and the sea that is full 6 The punishment of your Lord is certain to come. 7 there is no one who could avert it, 8 On the Day when the firmament will be in dreadful commotion. 9 and the mountains shudder and shake. 10 Woe on that Day to those who deny the truth, 11 who divert themselves with idle chatter: 12 The day on which they shall be driven away to the fire of hell with violence. 13 “This is the Hell which you used to give the lie to.” 14 "Is this then a fake, or is it ye that do not see? 15 Endure the heat thereof, and whether ye are patient of it or impatient of it is all one for you. Ye are only being paid for what ye used to do. 16 Lo! those who kept their duty dwell in gardens and delight, 17 Happy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath warded off from them the torment of hell-fire. 18 "Eat and drink with relish," (they will be told), (as recompense) for what you had done." 19 They will recline (with ease) on Thrones (of dignity) arranged in ranks; and We shall join them to Companions, with beautiful big and lustrous eyes. 20 And those who believe and whose progeny follow them in belief. We shall cause their progeny to join them, and We shall not diminish unto them aught of their own work. Every man is for that which he hath earned a pledge. 21 And We aided them with fruit and meat, whatever they desire. 22 There, they shall pass from hand to hand a cup which does not lead to any idle talk or sin. 23 ۞ And there will go round boy-servants of theirs, to serve them as if they were preserved pearls. 24 And some of them draw near to others, questioning. 25 "Before this, when we were among our families, we were full of fear of God's displeasure -- 26 God has been gracious to us and has saved us from the torment of Hell's intense heat -- 27 Surely we called upon Him before: Surely He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
