He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 you attend to him, 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and in awe of God 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted, pure. 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 and olives and palms, 29 And dense gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
