Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha, Meem. 1 By the manifest Book (this Quran) that makes things clear, 2 (That) We sent it down one night of blessing -- so that We could warn -- 3 Therein every wise affair is made distinct, 4 determined as a bidding from Us, (We are ever sending) 5 As mercy from your Lord. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing. 6 the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them - if you could but grasp it with inner certainty! 7 There is no god but He; He gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of yore. 8 Nay, but they are in doubt, playing. 9 Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. 10 enveloping all mankind, [and causing the sinners to exclaim:] "Grievous is this suffering! 11 Our Lord! remove from us the torment, verily we shall become believers. 12 How can there be for them an admonition (at the time when the torment has reached them), when a Messenger explaining things clearly has already come to them. 13 But they turned away from him, and said: "He is well-instructed, (but) possessed." 14 Surely We will remove the punishment a little, (but) you will surely return (to evil). 15 on the Day when We shall seize [all sinners] with a most mighty onslaught, We shall, verily, inflict Our retribution [on you as well]! 16 ۞ Already before them We tried the people of Pharaoh, and a noble Messenger came unto them, 17 (and said): “Deliver to me Allah's servants. I am a trustworthy Messenger to you, 18 Do not rise up against Allah, I come to you with clear authority. 19 I have taken refuge in my Lord and your Lord against your stoning me to death. 20 If you do not want to believe, leave me alone". 21 Then he called upon his Lord: these are a people guilty. 22 (His Lord answered): 'Set out with My worshipers in the night, for you will surely be followed. 23 And leave the sea behind at rest, for lo! they are a drowned host. 24 They left - how many! of gardens and springs. 25 And the cornlands and the goodly sites 26 and pleasant things in which they delighted! 27 As such (it was). And We made other people inherit them. 28 The sky nor the earth cried for them, nor were they given respite. 29
