The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise and warn, 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 And children present [with him] 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then he looked round; 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
