The tribe of Thamud denied the Noble Messengers. 23 They said, "Should we follow only one person among us. We shall be clearly in error and in trouble (if we do so). 24 Why - on him alone from among all of us should a [divine] reminder have been bestowed? Nay, but he is a boastful liar!" 25 It was said to Saleh, “They will soon realise tomorrow who is the mischievous great liar.” 26 “We shall send a she-camel to test them, therefore O Saleh, wait and have patience.” 27 And tell them that the water [of the well] is to be divided between them, and that each one should drink in turn." 28 But they called their companion, and he dared and hamstrung [her]. 29 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 30 Indeed, We sent upon them one blast from the sky, and they became like the dry twig fragments of an [animal] pen. 31 And indeed, We have made the Quran easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 32 The people of Lut treated the warning. as a lie. 33 Verily We! We sent upon them a gravel-storm save the household of Lut; them We delivered at early dawn. 34 as a favour from Us. Thus do We reward those who give thanks. 35 Lot warned them of Our punishment, but they disputed the warnings -- 36 They even solicited of him his guests, but We obliterated their eyes: 'Now, taste My punishment and My warnings' 37 Indeed an abiding chastisement came upon them in the morning. 38 'Taste now My chastisement and My warnings!' 39 And assuredly We have made the Qur'an easy for admonition; is there then any one who would be admonished. 40
