The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ The Compassionate. 1 has taught the Qur'an, 2 Created man, 3 and has taught him articulate speech. 4 [At His behest] the sun and the moon run their appointed courses; 5 The stars and the trees prostrate themselves. 6 And the sky He hath uplifted; and He hath set the measure, 7 so that you would maintain justice. 8 But observe the measure strictly, nor fall short thereof. 9 And the earth has He spread out for all living beings, 10 Wherein are fruit and sheathed palm-trees, 11 and grain in the blade, and fragrant herbs. 12 Which, then, of your Sustainer's powers can you disavow? 13 He created man of clay like the potter's, 14 And created jinns from the white-hot flame of fire. 15 Which of your Lord's wonders would you deny? 16 Lord of both the Easts, and Lord of both the Wests! 17 Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? 18 He let forth the two seas that meet together, 19 With an interstice between them which they cannot cross. 20 Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny? 21 There come forth from the twain the pearl and the coral. 22 Which of the wonders of your Lord's power will you twain – you men and jinn – then deny? 23 And His are the lofty ships that sail like [floating] mountains through the seas. 24 Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny? 25
