The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
96 verses, revealed in Mecca after T H (Taa Haa) before The Poets (Alshu'araa')
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the event befalleth - 1 there is no denying its coming 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 And ye are classes three. 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 And those foremost [(in Islamic Faith of Monotheism and in performing righteous deeds) in the life of this world on the very first call for to embrace Islam,] will be foremost (in Paradise). 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And wide eyed houris 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 The reward for what they did. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 And shade extended 30 And water everflowing. 31 and abundant fruit, 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
