A multitude of those of old 39 and a large group of those of later times. 40 And the fellows on the left hand; how miserable shall the fellows on the left hand be! 41 [They will find themselves] in the midst of scorching winds, and burning despair, 42 scalding water and under a shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor agreeable. 44 and before that they lived at ease, 45 and would persist in heinous sinning, 46 And they used to say: When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then, forsooth, be raised again, 47 What, and our fathers, the ancients?' 48 Say: "Indeed, the earlier and the later generations 49 shall be gathered to the appointed time of a known day. 50 Then you erring ones, you that cried lies, 51 Shall surely eat of the tree of Az-Zqqum. 52 filling your bellies with it; 53 and on top of this you will drink boiling water 54 lapping it down like thirsty camels.' 55 Such will be their welcome on Judgment Day! 56 It is We who have created you. Why then did you not testify to the Truth? 57 Have ye seen that which ye emit? 58 Is it you who create it - or are We the source of its creation? 59 We have destined death for you and no one can challenge Us 60 In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. 61 And you have already known the first creation, so will you not remember? 62 Behold! that which ye sow. 63 Do you yourselves sow it, or are We the Sowers? 64 We could turn it, if We pleased, into straw; then you would rue the day, 65 crying, "We have been left to suffer loss. 66 nay, we have been robbed!' 67 So what is your opinion regarding the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to descend from the clouds, or do We? 69 If We will, We would make it bitter, why then do you not give thanks? 70 See ye the Fire which ye kindle? 71 Did you produce the tree that serves as fuel or do We? 72 We have made it a Reminder (for the Hell-fire, in the Hereafter); and an article of use for the travellers (and all the others, in this world). 73 Therefore (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) proclaim the Purity of the name of your Lord, the Greatest. 74
