A throng of the ancients 39 And a company of the later peoples. 40 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 41 [They will find themselves] in the midst of scorching winds, and burning despair, 42 And in the shadow of a burning smoke. 43 [shadows] neither cooling nor soothing. 44 Verily, before that, they indulged in luxury, 45 and persisted in the great sin 46 And they used to say: What! when we die and have become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised? 47 "(We) and our fathers of old?" 48 Say: "Verily, those of olden times and those of later times 49 "All will surely be gathered together for appointed Meeting of a known Day. 50 Then you, the erring and the deniers, 51 you shall eat of a tree called Zakkoum, 52 filling your bellies with it; 53 and shall drink boiling water on top of that. 54 lapping it down like thirsty camels.' 55 Such will be their welcome on the Day of Judgement. 56 We! it is We Who created you: wherefore confess ye not? 57 Have you considered the seed? 58 Do you yourselves create it, or are We the Creators? 59 We have ordained death among you and We are not to be overcome, 60 Had We so wished, nothing could have hindered Us from replacing you by others like yourselves, or transforming you into beings you know nothing about. 61 You have known the first creation, then why do you not reflect? 62 Tell Me! The seed that you sow in the ground. 63 Is it ye who foster it, or are We the Fosterer? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry pieces, and you would be regretful (or left in wonderment). 65 "Verily, we are ruined! 66 "In fact, we were unfortunate!" 67 Behold! the water which ye drink: 68 Is it you who cause it from the rainclouds to come down, or are We the Causer of it to come down? 69 If We will, We would make it bitter, why then do you not give thanks? 70 Did you consider the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you that produce the trees for it, or are We the producers? 72 We have made it a Reminder (for the Hell-fire, in the Hereafter); and an article of use for the travellers (and all the others, in this world). 73 Then glorify with praises the Name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74

ColorfulQuran.com uses an English translation algorithm that combines several translations on one page. It randomly loads a different translation for each verse with equal probabilities. Translators can be Sunnis, Shiites, men, women, Muslims by birth, converts, ancient, or contemporary. There are also valid translations by non-Muslim translators. The list of translators is available at the end of each page. Click or tap the page number to reload a different combination.
