The Night (Al-Layl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 For him that gives and fears (Allah) 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 But he who is greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient. 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 And his riches will not avail him when he falls headlong (into the Abyss). 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 And indeed the Hereafter and this world both belong to Us. 13 I have now warned you of a Blazing Fire, 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 But save him who fears 17 [He] who gives [from] his wealth to purify himself 18 They do not expect any reward 19 He desires only to please his Lord, the Supreme. 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
