The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
A questioner asked of a chastisement about to fall 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can avert, 2 (A punishment) from Allah, the Owner of the Elevated Passages. 3 by which the angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in one Day the duration of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So be thou patient with a sweet patience; 5 Lo! they behold it afar off 6 And We behold it nigh. 7 The Day that the sky will be like molten brass, 8 and the mountains will become like tufts of wool, 9 And no friend will ask concerning his friend. 10 (Though) they shall be made to see each other. The guilty one would fain redeem himself from the chastisement of that day by (sacrificing) his children, 11 His wife and his brother, 12 and his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 And whoever is on earth entirely [so] then it could save him. 14 By no means! Verily, it will be the Fire of Hell! 15 That would skin the scalp. 16 It shall insistently summon him who turned his back and retreated, 17 and amassed wealth and covetously hoarded it. 18 ۞ Lo! man was created anxious, 19 Very nervous when touched by misfortune. 20 And niggardly when good touches him; 21 except those that pray, 22 and constant in their prayers. 23 those in whose wealth is a right known 24 For the needy and those dispossessed, 25 And those who accept the truth of the judgment day 26 And those who are fearful of the punishment of their Lord - 27 the punishment of their Lord is not something for them to feel secure of, 28 And those who protect their private organs (from adultery). 29 except from their wives and slave girls, in which case they are not to be blamed, 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, they are the transgressors. 31 (Those) who keep their trusts and their covenant, 32 And those who are firm upon their testimonies. 33 And those who protect their prayers. 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
