The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A supplicant asked for a punishment bound to happen 1 (a chastisement meant) for the unbelievers, one which none can avert; 2 From Allah, the Lord of all pinnacles. 3 (Whereby) the angels and the Spirit ascend unto Him in a Day whereof the span is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore endure with a goodly patience. 5 Verily they behold it afar off. 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 Upon the day when heaven shall be as molten copper 8 and the mountains will become like tufts of wool, 9 No loyal friend will ask another loyal friend 10 Though they will be put in sight of each other,- the sinner's desire will be: Would that he could redeem himself from the Penalty of that Day by (sacrificing) his children, 11 and his spouse and his brother, 12 his kin who sheltered him, 13 and all those on earth. 14 But never. It is pure white flame 15 that will strip off the scalp. 16 calling him who drew back and turned away, 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from spending it in the Cause of Allah). 18 ۞ Indeed, the human was created grudging and impatient. 19 When they are afflicted, they complain, 20 And refraining, when good reaches him. 21 Not so are the prayerful. 22 Those who are constant at their prayer 23 and those in whose wealth there is a known right 24 For the needy and those dispossessed, 25 who acknowledge the Day of Judgment, 26 who are afraid of the torment of their Lord, 27 Indeed the punishment of their Lord is not a thing to be unafraid of! 28 And those who preserve their chastity 29 except from their wives and what their right hands own, for these they are not blameworthy. 30 but whoever goes beyond this is a transgressor; 31 and those who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges; 32 who testify to what they have witnessed, 33 And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer: 34 Those shall be in gardens, honored. 35
