The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 arise and give warning! 2 And your Lord glorify 3 And your clothing purify 4 Pollution shun! 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then looked he, 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
