And [every time] the great ones among his people, who refused to acknowledge the truth and gave the lie to the announcement of a life to come - [simply] because We had granted them ease and plenty in [their] worldly life, and they had become corrupted by it [every time] they would say: "This [man] is nothing hut a mortal like yourselves, eating of what you eat, and drinking of what you drink: 33 "If ye obey a man like yourselves, behold, it is certain ye will be lost. 34 What! does he threaten you that when you are dead and become dust and bones that you shall then be brought forth? 35 ۞ “How remote, (really) how remote is the promise you are given!” 36 There is naught but our life of the world; we die and we live, and we shall not be raised (again). 37 He is only a man who hath invented a lie about Allah. We are not going to put faith in him. 38 He said: My Lord! Help me because they deny me. 39 He said, 'In a little they will be remorseful.' 40 And the Cry seized them in justice and We made them withered. So begone with the harmdoing nation. 41 Then We raised after them other generations. 42 no community can advance or postpone its appointed time, 43 And We sent forth Our apostles, one after another: [and] every time their apostle came to a community, they gave him the lie: and so We caused them to follow one another [into the grave,] and let them become [mere] tales: and so - away with the folk who would not believe! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our signs and clear authority 45 To Pharaoh and his nobles who behaved with arrogance, for they were a conceited lot, 46 'What' they said, 'are we to believe in two mortals like us, whose nation are our worshipers' 47 So they denied them – therefore became of those who were destroyed. 48 And We verily gave Moses the Scripture, that haply they might go aright. 49 And We made Mary's son, and his mother, a Sign, and We gave them refuge on a lofty ground, a peaceful site with springs flowing in it. 50
