The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 thy robes purify 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 He looked (at others); 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
