Nay, and by the moon, 32 By the night when it departs. 33 By the morning when it brighteneth. 34 Surely it (hell) is one of the gravest (misfortunes), 35 it is a warning to man, 36 To whoever wills among you to proceed or stay behind. 37 Every soul shall be pledged for what it has earned, 38 Except the people of the right hand, 39 Sitting in the gardens, asking 40 About the guilty: 41 “What drove you to Hell?” 42 They shall say, 'We were not of those who prayed, and 43 “Nor used to feed the needy.” 44 and we were wont to indulge in sinning together with all [the others] who indulged in it; 45 And we used to call the day of judgment a lie; 46 Until the certainty (of death) had come upon us. 47 So no intercession will avail them. 48 What is the matter with them that they turn away from this Reminder, 49 As though they were asses startled. 50 That had fled from a lion? 51 In fact every one of them wants to be given open books (like the prophets). 52 Nay, verily. They fear not the Hereafter. 53 There is no doubt that the Quran is a guide. 54 Let anyone who seeks guidance do so. 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
