He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 and olives and palms, 29 And thick gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
