He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 to him thou attendest 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and fearfully, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 lofty and pure, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 then the way eased for him, 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 Olives and dates, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
