He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 So you are after him! 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 and who has fear of God, 9 You neglect. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 and olives and palms, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
