He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 and who has fear of God, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 noble and purified. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 and olives and palms, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
