He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 to him thou attendest 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And whereas he fears, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 exalted and purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces will shine, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
