The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
WOE TO THOSE who give short measure, 1 Those who, when they have to receive by measure from men, exact full measure, 2 but when they give by measurement or weight to others, they give them less. 3 Do they not know that they are bound to be raised from the dead 4 on a Great Day, 5 A Day whereon mankind shall stand before the Lord of the worlds? 6 Indeed, the record of the disbelievers is in the lowest place, the Sijjeen. 7 and what could make you understand what the Sijjin is? -- 8 A written record. 9 Woe on that Day to those who belied it, 10 Who give the lie to the day of judgment. 11 And none will deny it, except every transgressor, rebel. 12 When Our Verses (of the Quran) are recited to him he says: "Tales of the ancients!" 13 Nay, but that which they have earned is rust upon their hearts. 14 No! Indeed, from their Lord, that Day, they will be partitioned. 15 then they shall enter the Fire of Hell, 16 Then it will be said [to them], "This is what you used to deny." 17 Nay, but the record of the righteous is in 'Illiyin - 18 And what will make thee know whatsoever the record in Illiyun is? 19 A record [indelibly] inscribed, 20 which the angels placed near Allah to safeguard. 21 The righteous shall indeed be blissful, 22 (reclining) upon couches they will gaze, 23 and in their faces you shall know the radiance of bliss. 24 Their thirst will be slaked with Pure Wine sealed: 25 With a sealing of musk, which those who aspire for the best should desire, -- 26 And it is mixed with Tasneem. 27 a fountain at which the chosen ones shall drink. 28 The wicked used to laugh at the believers -- 29 and whenever they pass by them, they wink at one another [derisively]; 30 And when they went back to their people turned to make fun of them; 31 And when they saw them they said: Lo! these have gone astray. 32 (they said so although) they had not been appointed watchers over them. 33 So today those who believe shall laugh at the unbelievers; 34 while reclining on couches and reviewing (the bounties given to them). 35 "Are these deniers of the truth being [thus] requited for [aught but] what they were wont to do?" 36
