The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
I swear by the heaven and the comer by night; 1 How will you comprehend what the night star is? 2 The very brightly shining star! 3 For every soul there is a watcher. 4 So let man consider of what he is created: 5 He is created from a water dripping, 6 That issueth from between the loins and the breast-bones. 7 Surely, He is Able to bring him back, 8 The Day when all the secrets (deeds, prayers, fasting, etc.) will be examined (as to their truth). 9 He shall have neither strength nor helper. 10 By the heaven which returneth, 11 And the earth splitting (with plants); 12 Most surely it is a decisive word, 13 it is no merriment. 14 As for them, they are but plotting a scheme, 15 and so am I: 16 So bear with unbelievers with patience, and give them respite for a while. 17
True are the words of God the Almighty.
