Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Certainly the news of the calamity that will overwhelm has come to you! 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 (Yet) Going into the blazing fire. 4 They will be given drink from a boiling spring. 5 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns 6 which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 (Other) faces that Day will be joyful, 8 Glad for their effort past, 9 In a lofty garden, 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 Countless springs will flow therein, 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 And cushions set in a row, 15 and well spread carpets. 16 Do they not look at the camels, how they are created? 17 And how the heaven was raised up, 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 And the earth: how it was spread out? 20 So remind them (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)), you are only a one who reminds. 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 Other than him who turns his back and denies, 23 In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment. 24 To Us they will all return. 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26
