Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 Working [hard] and exhausted. 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 Drinking from a boiling spring, 5 No food for them save the bitterness of dry thorns, 6 Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger. 7 Some faces on that Day will be radiant, 8 With their effort [they are] satisfied 9 They shall be in a Garden lofty: 10 hearing there no babble; 11 Therein is a fountain flowing, 12 In which are high thrones. 13 Goblets set, 14 And cushions set in a row, 15 And carpets spread out. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 how heaven was lifted up, 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 But whoso is averse and disbelieveth, 23 Allah will punish him with direst punishment. 24 Indeed only towards Us is their return 25 Then indeed only upon Us is their reckoning. 26
