Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 and the ten nights, 2 Consider the multiple and the One! 3 and by the passing night, 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 [With] Iram - who had lofty pillars, 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 Who terrorised the region, 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you eat away the heritage, devouring (everything) indiscriminately, 19 And you love wealth with exceeding love. 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? 23 He will say, “Alas – if only I had sent some good deeds ahead, during my lifetime!” 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 O satisfied soul, 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
