Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn, 1 And the ten nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Considering all this - could there be, to anyone endowed with reason, a [more] solemn evidence of the truth? 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 and with Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles? 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 And multiplied therein corruption. 12 Therefore your Lord let down upon them a portion of the chastisement. 13 Your Lord is certainly in wait. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 Not at all – but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, 19 And you harbour intense love for wealth. 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 On that day the punishment of God and His detention will be unparalleled. 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
