Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 and by the passing night, 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 [With] Iram - who had lofty pillars, 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 and spread much corruption in the land. 12 Therefore your Lord let down upon them a portion of the chastisement. 13 indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 Nay, but [how will you fare on Judgment Day,] when the earth is crushed with crushing upon crushing, 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 and none can bind with bonds like His. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 "Enter thou, then, among My devotees! 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
