The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the sun and his brightness, 1 By the Moon as she follows him; 2 By the day when it glorifieth it. 3 And the night when it enshroudeth him, 4 And by oath of the heaven and by oath of Him Who made it. 5 By the Earth and its (wide) expanse: 6 The soul and how it was integrated 7 and inspired it with knowledge of evil and piety, 8 To a happy state shall indeed attain he who causes this [self] to grow in purity, 9 And he will indeed fail who corrupts it. 10 In their presumptuous insolence the Thamud called the Truth a lie 11 When the most wicked among them stood up in defiance. 12 then the Messenger of God said to them, 'The She-camel of God; let her drink!' 13 But they cried him lies, and hamstrung her, so their Lord crushed them for their sin, and leveled them: 14 And He feared not the consequence thereof 15
