The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the sun and his brightness, 1 And the moon as she follows in his wake, 2 by the day, when it displays it, 3 And by the night as it conceals it (the sun); 4 And the heaven and Him Who built it, 5 and by the earth and That which extended it! 6 by the soul and Who shaped it 7 and inspired it with its sin and its piety, 8 Prosperous is he who purifies it, 9 And he fails that corrupts it! 10 Thamud denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression, 11 When among them the great wretch arose, 12 And the messenger of Allah said: It is the she-camel of Allah, so let her drink! 13 Then they belied him and they hamstrung her; wherefore their Lord overwhelmed them for their crime, and made it equal. 14 He does not fear the consequence. 15
True are the words of God the Almighty.
