The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 And [by] the day when it appears 2 and That which created the male and the female, 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 As for him who gave out his wealth (for Allah's sake) and abstained (from disobeying Him), 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 And as for him who is niggardly and considers himself free from need (of Allah), 8 and he belied the finest 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 Who belieth and turneth away. 16 But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,- 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 And he is going to be satisfied. 21
