The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Read with the name of your Lord Who created, 1 created man from a clot [of blood]. 2 Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 who taught by the Pen, 4 taught man what he did not know! 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 that he sees himself sufficed. 7 Verily unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Seest thou one who forbids- 9 a servant (of Allah) when he prays? 10 Have you seen if he was upon guidance 11 Or enjoins righteousness? 12 Hast thou considered whether he may [not] be giving the lie to the truth and turning his back [upon it]? 13 Does he not know that God sees? 14 Nay, if he desist not, We shall most surely drag him down upon his forehead 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19
