The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Read! In the name of your Lord, who created: 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 The One Who taught man all what he did not know. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 for he believes himself to be self-sufficient. 7 Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 a servant of Ours from prayer? 10 Have you seen if he is upon guidance 11 Or enjoins righteousness? 12 Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward? 13 Knows he not that Allah does see (what he does)? 14 No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock - 15 The lying, sinful forelock - 16 Let him call on his associates for help 17 We will now call the guards! 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
