And when the envoys came to the family of Lot, 61 he said, "You seem to be strangers". 62 They said: nay! we have come to thee with that whereof they have been dubitating. 63 "Yet we bring to you the truth, and we are truthful. 64 Go, then, with thy household while it is yet night, with thyself following them in the rear; and let none of you look back, but proceed whither you are bidden." 65 And We conveyed to him [the decree] of that matter: that those [sinners] would be eliminated by early morning. 66 The inhabitants of the city came in (mad) joy (at news of the young men). 67 Exclaimed [Lot]: "Behold, these are my guests: so put me not to shame, 68 "And do not disgrace me. Have some fear of God." 69 "Did we not restrain you," they said, "from (entertaining) creatures from the outside world?" 70 He said, "Here are my daughters, if you must act in this way." 71 By thy life, they wandered blindly in their dazzlement, 72 Then the shout took hold of them at the sunrise. 73 We turned the town upside down and rained upon them stones of clay. 74 Surely, in that there are signs for those who contemplate. 75 This (city) lies on a road that still survives. 76 Lo! therein is indeed a portent for believers. 77 And the dwellers in the wood indeed were evil-doers. 78 and so We inflicted Our retribution on them. And behold, both these [sinful communities] lived by a highway, [to this day] plain to see 79
